Paris Hilton has settled a defamation lawsuit out of court, avoiding having to make yet another court appearance this year. The reality TV star had been sued for $10 million by actress Zeta Graff, who dated Paris’ ex-fiancé, Paris Lastis. Graff accused Paris (the socialite, not the shipping heir) of spreading “vicious lies” about her, including one story that alleged she had tried to strangle Paris in a London nightclub and steal her diamond necklace. Hilton denied that she had leaked the story, but her former publicist Rob Shuter disagreed. Details of the settlement will remain confidential, according to Graff’s lawyer, Bruce Broillet.

Britney Spears is reportedly considering moving to London, according to US reports. The troubled pop princess is said to be desperate to escape the increasingly nasty custody battle she is facing with her ex, Kevin Federline. One ‘friend’ claimed, "She thinks her only hope is to move to London for a fresh start. She is so scared about losing her boys that her mind is racing trying to think of how to keep them. Britney thinks she can arrive in London and blend in with the locals. But she doesn't have a clue how to write a cheque."

Lindsay Lohan has been sentenced to one day in jail as punishment for drink-driving and drug charges brought against her earlier in the year. The Mean Girls actress, who follows in the footsteps of fellow partygirls Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, pleaded guilty to the seven charges she faced and agreed a plea bargain with her solicitor. She also has to visit a mortuary and talk to victims of drink-drivers. In a statement, Lindsay said: "It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs... Recently I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed. I broke the law and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case."

Jessica Alba revealed she wasn't always so desired at the Teen Choice Awards when she said in her Female Hottie acceptance speech, "I would like to dedicate this award to a young man who has been on my mind for the last 19 years: Ross. Nicole Richie served just 82 minutes of her four-day jail sentence for DUI. The pregnant reality TV star, who is expecting her first baby with boyfriend Joel Madden, presented herself last Thursday at Lynwood Correctional Facility - the same jail that Paris served her time at in June. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Maribel Rizo said Nicole was released, “based on her sentence and federal guidelines,” but she refused to confirm whether or not the socialite actually spent any time in a jail cell. The reduced sentence was thought to be due to severe overcrowding in the county jail. The sheriff's spokesperson, Kerri Webb, said Nicole arrived at the jail with her boyfriend by her side and "was processed into the jail system, she was highly cooperative and she was released.” Nicole was arrested in December 2006 after driving the wrong way up a Californian freeway.

Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood has revealed that he was among the many members of Kate Moss's inner circle urging the supermodel to ditch her junkie lover, Pete Doherty. He said, "Someone had to do it. Well, he wasn't exactly very good for her, was he? I was just encouraging her - saying 'Go on, girl. I'm glad you've got rid of him'." Ronnie revealed that Kate asked if she could stay at his Surrey mansion in the wake of her split from the Babyshambles frontman and he was happy to help; "I said 'Yeah, great'." It is currently unclear whether Kate and Pete are still sepeareted, or have secretly reunited.

Keira Knightly has defended herself against critics who have slated her acting skills, arguing that she simply tried to do too much at once. She explained, "I have had to learn a lot in a very short time. One thing is to try not to pack too much in. I went directly from playing Elizabeth Bennet in Pride + Prejudice to Domino with just a four day break, for example. It was a crazy thing to do." The actress, who recently filmed The Edge of Love with Sienna Miller, appears in the adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel, Atonement, which will open the Venice Film Festival. Poor old Owen Wilson is recovering in hospital after what US sources are claiming was a failed suicide attempt. One insider alleged: “His brothers Andrew and Luke are with him. His parents were also seen visiting Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Sunday night. Andrew found him after the suicide attempt and called an ambulance. Both of Owen's wrists were slashed superficially and Owen had taken an overdose of pills. Owen was found with a nearly empty bottle of pills next to him." The Wedding Crashers star, who was recently linked to Kate Hudson, is said to be in a stable condition. Wilson's spokesperson has not commented on the reports.
